How To Use the Mailing list or E-group

I have been asked a lot of questions about the E-groups by various Batchmates. That is why I've decided to spend some time for this section. I hope you find this useful.

The Basics

You have to have an e-mail ID for interacting with people through the mailing list. You can use any of the e-mail facilities found on the Internet. But, to get the most out of the e-group it's better to have a Yahoo! ID. Why is this? It's basically because our E-group is owned by Yahoo. By having a Yahoo! ID you can enjoy the web-access to this group enabling you to view the message lists from the start. Also you can view the photos, share the files in the e-group and vote in the polls conducted every now and then. So, I advice you to make an e-mail ID in Yahoo! before you attempt to join.

Joining

You have to join the e-group to send and receive mails. For that you can click the following link.

http://group.yahoo.com/group/mctvm96

You will be taken to the home page of the e-group. There will be a link saying Join this group somewhere in the page. Click on the link. You will be asked to sign into Yahoo! with your ID. Sign in and then you will be taken to the "Join this group" page. Follow the simple instructions on the page. In the same page you can either choose the way in which the posts come to your e-mail ID ie. as Individual Mails or Daily Digest. Click JOIN. You will be taken to the next page saying that your membership has to be approved by the moderator before you can read and post messages. You can come back later to see if the membership has been approved. Once this is over, you will be able to use all the facilities in the e-group.

Web Access

Suppose you are already receiving the e-mails from the e-group. To enable web access click on the link to our group above. You will be asked to sign in to Yahoo! After signing in, you will go to the page where you can enable web access. After that by going to the e-groups' home, you can click on the various links (like Messages, Photos, Polls etc.) on the navigation on the left side of the page.

Editing your Preferences : Individual Mails OR Daily Digest

After joining the group, sign into Yahoo and go to the home page of the e-group. On the right top of page, you will see a link Edit My Membership. Clicking on that will take you to the a page (which is the page you are taken to when you first enable web access). Choose the way you want the posts to come to your inbox.

Individual Mails : This means that each post will come as a separate e-mail in your inbox. The best advantage with this is that you can reply to the post directly if you wish. The main problem is that your inbox will get filled with all the individual mails if you don't check and clean your inbox frequently.

Daily Digest : This means that you get a digest of all the mails posted on the day as a single mail. This is certainly better than the previous option if you don't want your inbox to get jammed up.
