The Common Rooms
There
were separate common rooms for Ladies and Gents till
very recently. A new "common" common room
has been built near the libary. It was inaugrated
only in 2002. Otherwise, the places to hang out are
very very less in our campus. That's why I've considered
our campus life as a very dull experience. I'll just
breifly go through the other places.
The
lounge : It's by the side of the main auditorium
in the building. As I've mentioned before, there are
some vending machines for coffee and light rereshments.
We also generally tend to hang out during the lunch
hours. It's a nice open place where there is a lot
of breeze. We practice the dance routines for the
festival season with some music be blared on by a
tape recorder. This place also is the home for the
"Atthappovu" competition etc. during Onam
celbrations. The ground nearby is also the place for
many fun activities like "Vadam Vali" etc.
The
Garden : It's a picturesque location for
taking photographs. The garden has a good lawn and
a few bushes with bright colored flowers. There's
a statue of Hippocrates in the right side of it. I
just wish it was maintained better by the gardener
employed for this purpose.
The Canteen : The food here might
be bad, but it's certainly fun hanging out with friends
here. Especially during the evenings when we get a
lot of friends sharing jokes over tea and snacks.
This is also the place where we take breaks from hours
long of study at the library. The main problem the
canteen faces is that the students usually eat more
than they pay for.
The College Grounds :
There
are two grounds as I've already told you. One is the
official Medical College Cricket Ground. This is often
occupied by district level matches or teams practicing
soccer. The pitch is actually grass but they tend
to lay a synthetic pitch for some of the matches.
The outfield is not lush. There are very limited seating
facilities for the specatators. The other one is located
by the side of the main ground and is a little elevated.
This is a much smaller ground without any pitches
laid. This is where we spent countless evenings playing
cricket. It was the most enjoyable time in my undergraduate
life. We used to play tournaments between the different
batches in the ground. When this place is occupied
by a cricket match, we usually go down to the bigger
ground and play there in corner.
Our
Cricket ground is well known across the world. How???
Well, it has to be! It's got it's own web page. Would
you believe it? There is a link to it at the cricket.org
site!!! Long live, our Cricket Ground!

There
is a clay tennis court and a basketball court in the
campus as well. Both of these are mainly used for
ragging purposes. The Basketball court is very close
to the Ladies' Hostel.
