The Central Library :
This
is probably the most up-to-standards part of our whole
campus. The collection at the library is simply amazing.
There are journals dating from the '70s in here. The
collection is text books is very vast. The only problem
is in finding them. The categorization has improved
since the administrative changes last year.
The
library is in two floors with a central hall for reading.
The top floor is devoted to the journals and is out
of bounds for undergraduates. It's accessible for
the Post Graduate Students and staff. The books in
the lower floor are catergorized subject wise. There
are a lot of tables and chairs which are not all that
comortable. Each table is provided with a table fan
and the best part is that all the table fans are in
working condition. Two years back, this was not the
condition. The lighting has also been improved since
then.
The
working hours are from 0900 to 2200 hrs. The library
is meant for reference. But some of the students in
reservation categories can borrow the book for reading
elsewhere. A Medical College ID card is essential
these days to get in the Library.
The AKMG LRC
- New Addition
The
latest addition to the library is the AKMG - LRC.
That is the All Kerala Medical Graduates Association
funded Learning Resource Center. This was inaugrated
a few months back. The gist of the matter is something
like this. AKMG is an association of doctors from
Kerala who are practicing in the U. S. and Canada.
They have sponsored the LRC. The LRC consists of an
airconditioned enclosure with a conference hall with
projection facilities. The reading / refrerence section
is connected to the internet by a leased ISDN line
of 128 KBPS using a central server. There are 12 computers
connected to this server through an intrantet. Along
with this, there is a data CD Jukebox connected to
main server which can hold upto 150 CDs as of now.
There is an easy search interface on each of the peripheral
computers connected with which we can search the CD
database. Of course, you can also search and access
the internet.
This
is just avaialable on Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram
right now. There are plans to connect all the medical
Colleges like this in the future.
