BIRDS OF BONDAGE : Dr. Cynthia A. ( view bio )

The congealed heart confessed attrition
And nay-said a flimsy coax to valediction ,
For their wings were clipped before they could fly
The cresset’s shadow was all they could try.

To cringe under the austere foothold of future
Was the decree inordinate dictated by nature
The earth below was wet with tears of the flounderer
So the leaping platform was of a dampened caliber.

The calypso ceased to maintain the momentum
The limping campaigner sought not the tantrum;
For what desire had inspired to dream
Would only perish in a subduced scream.

The silent squirm told not the skirmish
The latent fears held fast the dear wish;
The caller had not the power of pre-emption
To give the sublime recluse of redemption.

A perfunctory ad ieu to the dearest at heart
When winter starks its sturdy claws at last;
Was but inevitable for the maestros of voyage
For they were the birds of bondage!

[A birdie wants to join a flock of migratory birds, but is unable to do so for it is tied down and its wings are clipped. Further, it’s lover does not have the power to take it with him. The forces of bondage might destroy the urge for togetherness.]
