The Legacy : Dr. Sebind Kumar ( view bio )

The Legacy

it was the legacy of a feeling,
of a few tears,
that were not even shed,
but travelled a hundred years!

the scene has changed,
the actors all new,
and all that remain,
are a few haunting thoughts.

but the stars stand witness,
the wind knows the story still!
and the legacy lives on,
as do the tears.

today the platform is crowded,
they are greeted by a thousand cheers,
but it was mostly deserted that day,
and all that greeted you was jeers!

but what started as a few tears,
became a river thats mighty,
that brought visions of hope,
and washed away a billion tears!

today the river is much polluted,
the stains and dirt slow it down,
it has lost its bubbly laugh,
and is fast drying up!

but its here it all started,
and all it takes is the few tears,
shed from a soul thats pure,
and the legacy can live on!

- dedicated to… the plaque of Mahatma Gandhi that was unveiled at the Pietermaritzburg railway station, South Africa, witnessed by the Indian cricket team. It was in this station that Gandhiji was thrown out of the railway carriage. And Gandhiji says that it was a turning point in his life!
