Heroes : Dr. Sebind Kumar ( view bio )

hi everybody,

there is this thing about heroes...like many 'paradoxes' in life,we actually like those 'heroes' who have a bit of weakness in them!like clark kent -superman,peter parker-spiderman,..we like it when unassuming,'harmless' guys become 'supermen'!

the problem with arnold schwarzneggar is that he seems too strong!too invincible!but russel crowe in gladiator ,is a guy we are not sure of.so when he fights even when the odds are aginst him,we are actually cheering for him!

why i'm saying all this is that,we must see the Indian cricketers for what they are.the crass commercial sector may be trying to exploit their mass appeal for their nefarious gains.but even if our cricketers are not the best in the world, they are good.and they will stand up to the best in the world,on their terms!they have an unfair share of the expectations of a billion people riding on their backs.whether they become heroes or not ,will not be decided by the matches they win!but its how they take the losses! .for the spirit of sport (and i suppose, life) demands that u never give up.and give your best.no matter whether the odds are for or against you!

yes india has a lot more important problems.but i feel the cricketers can use their mass appeal for the good.there was a photo of the South African captain possing with Nelson Mandela.there was the news about the Newzelandian cricketers(i think Olonga and Andy Flower) who wore black arm bands to highlight the problems their country was facing and the 'death' of democracy there.Olonga was expelled by his club.as believers in democracy the least our team could've done was to express their support by wearing black armbands!but i suppose that wouldn't go well with the 'COLGATE' smile they have to sport!well you are free to dream!

maybe todays world demands the killer instinct, having all the cards in your hand.and going cool ly for the kill!

but i'm for the 'underdog' who even when the odds are aginst him is couragoius enough to dream and fight to the end!

so lets hope the Indian cricketers do it!cheers!

love,

sebind.
